About Me

WMS_6267.jpg

Having healed from my own food and body struggles, I know how difficult it can be to find a practitioner that provides a balance of science-based nutrition and flexible eating. I use an intuitive eating, values-based approach to help others eat for well-being, overcome chronic dieting, and heal from disordered eating.

I’m Malia Dunn, Registered Dietitian and Eating Disorder Specialist. I graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with my B.S. in Dietetics, where I also completed my dietetic internship. I have been trained and supervised by the Intuitive Eating founders, Elyse Resch and Evelyn Tribole, while I completed my Intuitive Eating Counselor certification. To best serve those with eating disorders, I have completed my Certified Eating Disorder Specialist credential from the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (iaedp). Families require a specialized approach which is why I have received training in Emotion Focused Family Therapy by the founder, Dr. Adele Lafrance. Having worked in all levels of care of eating disorders - outpatient, intensive outpatient, residential and inpatient - I am able to treat all eating disorders and work best with a treatment team.

In addition to one-on-one counseling, I enjoy public speaking and guest lecturing on eating disorders and Intuitive Eating. My previous speaking engagements include the Northern Colorado Dietetic Association, the University of Northern Colorado, Colorado State University, Front Range Community College and company wellness programs.

I’m very passionate about this community and it is essential I give back in different ways. I have advocated in Washington D.C. for better care and coverage for individuals with eating disorders. I also coach RD2BE’s and new dietitians in Health at Every Size, Intuitive Eating, and gentle nutrition practices for those with disordered eating. I have served as President, President-Elect, and Marketing Chair of the Northern Colorado Dietetic Association. I am passionate about mental health awareness and advocacy and strive to break the stigma of mental health diagnoses.
